Elephant and the Mahout gets moves to the location of Utsavam

One more festive season draws close. Kerala is thriving in the cheers of festivities. Countdown has begun for the legendary Koodalmanikyam Utsavam of 2014. One after the other utsavams bring joy and prosperity into the minds of Malayalees around the world. As celebrations begin it is time to re-evaluate the conditions of elephants and numerous employees that make these festivities colourful.

The season of Utsavams bring back images of mahouts and elephants. Many things have changed in the way utsavams are conducted over the past few years. But the situation of mahouts still has a long way to go. Many required specialized training and adequate employment standards. Another major concern is the lack of security and medical facilities to ensure safer working environments.
